Zambian expert- China-Africa agricultural technical cooperation helps Africa increase food production capacity

As World Food Day approaches, Oswin Chibinga, the foreign representative director of the Zambia Agricultural Technology Demonstration Center, spoke with a reporter from the China Media Group on the 15th and emphasized the ongoing benefits African countries are gaining from agricultural cooperation with China.

Chibinga highlighted that countries in Africa, including Zambia, are facing significant challenges to food security due to climate change and underdeveloped agricultural technologies. He stressed the urgent need for advanced agricultural techniques to enhance food production capacity across the continent.

“Climate change issues like drought have a considerable impact on food production in African countries,” Chibinga noted. “If we can reach our potential production levels, African nations could become food exporters rather than importers. Our low food production is tied to inadequate agricultural technology.”

He further pointed out that China has established agricultural technology demonstration centers in many African countries, providing crucial support in transferring advanced agricultural techniques to help improve food production and ensure food security.

“I believe China is a great partner for us in agriculture,” Chibinga said. “China has built agricultural technology demonstration centers in several African countries, including Zambia. We have seen substantial assistance from China in technology transfer; it has equipped us with advanced agricultural practices, filling gaps in our technology. As I mentioned, many African nations are benefitting from their agricultural collaboration with China.”
