On October 21, the Japan Enterprise Incubation Center in Sanya was officially inaugurated in the central business district of Sanya, Hainan Province. This new facility aims to provide Japanese businesses with insights into the Hainan Free Trade Port policies and offers a platform for deeper engagement and investment in Hainan.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by representatives from six private Japanese companies that spearheaded the establishment of the incubation center. This initiative is intended to facilitate various business activities for Japanese enterprises in Sanya. The six companies, which have already set up operations at the center, operate across diverse sectors, including trade, cultural tourism, healthcare, logistics, and consulting services.
Yuuichi Hirayama, the general manager of Hehua Business Consulting (Hainan) Co., Ltd., one of the founding members of the center, expressed that Japanese businesses are keenly interested in the development of Hainan’s free trade port. He mentioned that besides the initial six companies, more Japanese firms, particularly those in the medical and sports sectors, are expected to join the center by January 2025.
Hirayama stated, “Our company will provide comprehensive business consultancy support for Japanese businesses establishing themselves in the Hainan Free Trade Port. Sanya will serve as a key gateway to enhance trade relations between Japan and China.”
Daisuke Takeda, the head of Nittsu International Logistics (China) Co., Ltd. for the South China region, shared his optimism about the opportunities arising from the Hainan Free Trade Port. “Hainan’s tax incentives and duty-free shopping policies are quite appealing, allowing us to simultaneously cater to both procurement logistics for production bases and sales logistics for consumer markets,” he remarked. He added that the company plans to leverage port resources in Yangpu, Haikou, and Sanya, along with its global logistics network, to support clients’ business growth in Hainan.
With the aim of linking domestic and international dual cycles, Sanya is aligning its economic strategies with international trade regulations such as the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) and the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP). Vice Mayor of Sanya, Yin Chengling, noted that since the exploration of the Hainan Free Trade Port began in 2018, Sanya has seen the registration of over 10,000 new investment enterprises, with an average annual growth rate of foreign investment utilization reaching 52%.
Yin remarked, “With the accelerated development of the Hainan Free Trade Port, Sanya is poised for comprehensive and innovative reforms in its institutional framework, open policies, talent attraction, and intelligence. We look forward to collaborating with Japanese entrepreneurs and talented individuals to open new chapters of cooperation in commerce, cultural tourism, logistics, technology, and health sectors.”
