The flight to Malaysia did not take off. The Japanese got off the plane and went through customs to return home. They were stamped with -abroad suspension-.

During a recent travel experience, a Japanese netizen encountered an unusual situation upon being cleared for departure at the airport. After successfully passing through customs, he discovered a surprising new stamp on his passport that read “Outbound Trip Canceled.” This incident has sparked considerable discussion online.

According to a report from the Japanese media outlet “TRILL,” a resident of Chiang Mai, Thailand, known as “yama3_local,” shared a photo of his passport featuring this rare stamp. Despite having traveled in and out of countries multiple times, this was the first occasion he received such a stamp, prompting him to ask if others had experienced something similar.

The traveler recounted his experience: after passing through customs and getting ready to board a flight from Japan to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, he found himself waiting for hours with no sign of takeoff. Eventually, all passengers were asked to disembark the plane and return to the terminal, yet the flight continued to be delayed. Under the guidance of airport staff, he and the other passengers were required to “re-enter” Japan, at which point the stamp was applied to his passport. He later took a different flight the next day on the same route.

In response to his post, many netizens shared their thoughts: “Did the flight get canceled?” “I’ve had a VOID stamp on my passport before,” “I experienced something similar in Malaysia,” “This is the first time I’ve seen that stamp; it looks cool, but it must have been a hassle for you,” “I encountered something like this last July,” and “I know someone who overslept and missed their flight, and they ended up with that stamp.”

The 23rd Knife Expo opens in Yangjiang with the first cross-border e-commerce source factory exhibition area

On October 18th, the 23rd China (Yangjiang) International Hardware and Scissors Expo, commonly known as the “Knife Expo,” kicked off at the Yangjiang International Convention and Exhibition Center. This year’s event features a new cross-border e-commerce source factory exhibition area aimed at integrating more high-quality source manufacturers into the international trade supply chain, thereby enhancing the efficiency of collaboration across the industry chain.

Yangjiang is celebrated as the “Capital of Chinese Knives and Scissors” and stands out as a major production hub for hardware knives and scissors in China. Over several decades, the knife and scissors industry in Yangjiang has developed into a distinctive industrial cluster with a complete supply chain, diverse product offerings, and substantial scale. Currently, the total industry output value exceeds 55 billion yuan, accounting for approximately 70% of national production and about 85% of exports, with products reaching over 130 countries and regions worldwide.

This year’s Knife Expo is themed “Developing New Quality Productivity to Propel Industry Advancement.” The exhibition spans roughly 20,000 square meters, showcasing 266 exhibitors from around the globe and attracting nearly 10,000 buyers. Among the notable participants are major domestic brands such as Yanzhizi, Wangmazizi, and Zhang Xiaoqi, alongside prestigious manufacturers from Sweden and Japan, drawing over 160 buyers from 28 countries and regions including Germany and Romania.

A key highlight of this year’s expo is the introduction of the cross-border e-commerce source factory exhibition area, designed to enhance the entry of quality source factories into the international trade procurement chain, while boosting supply chain collaboration. Additionally, the event features a variety of activities centered around cross-border e-commerce, including a series of RCEP e-commerce outreach initiatives and a face-to-face discussion forum titled “Gathering E-commerce Experts to Explore New Opportunities in the Industry.” There are also designated areas for live e-commerce streaming and RCEP cross-border e-commerce showcases.

Zhang Dongli, Chairman of the China Hardware Products Association, remarked that the Knife Expo is recognized as “the premier showcase for the Chinese hardware and scissors industry.” It serves as an international platform for domestic and foreign businesses to display product technology, negotiate trade partnerships, and exchange development trends. The Association aims to act as a bridge between the government and enterprises, fostering international technological collaboration and facilitating cutting-edge discussions within the Yangjiang hardware knife and scissors industry, thereby driving innovation, sustainability, and intelligent advancement.

Under the influence of the Knife Expo, the Yangjiang hardware and scissors supply chain continues to refine and accelerate brand clustering, further invigorating market dynamism. From January to August this year, Yangjiang’s knife and scissors exports reached 2.88 billion yuan, accounting for over 80% of the national total.

Overseas Chinese media members visited Baifu Wanhu Village in Kaili, Guizhou

On October 15, 2023, a delegation of 19 representatives from overseas Chinese media, hailing from 11 countries and regions, arrived in Kaili, located in the Qiandongnan Miao and Dong Autonomous Prefecture of Guizhou Province. The group, participating in the “Chasing Dreams of China: Colorful Qiandongnan” initiative, visited Baifu Wanhuzhai to gain insights into an integrated wellness project that combines various industries to empower rural revitalization.

Baifu Wanhuzhai, established by overseas businessman Wu Jianping in 2018, focuses on sustainable development in the health and wellness sector. The project encompasses a range of offerings, including travel accommodations, dining, and cultural experiences rooted in Miao and Dong heritage. Since its pilot operation began in October 2021, Baifu Wanhuzhai has garnered regional brand recognition, emerging as a standout feature of Kaili’s health industry integration.

During the visit, the media representatives explored the Village Revitalization Reception Hall and the Red Qiandongnan Exhibition Hall, learning about the construction of the “Home for Overseas Chinese” in the stilt houses of Wanhuzhai.

“Guizhou’s rural areas benefit from unique natural landscapes and a wealth of cultural resources, making them ideal for developing tourism and wellness industries,” Wu Jianping explained. He emphasized the project’s deep exploration of Guizhou’s historical culture, traditional customs, pastoral beauty, and unique industries, incorporating successful domestic and international case studies. This approach integrates education, agriculture, culture, and rural tourism into a comprehensive tourism development strategy.

Wu also highlighted that Baifu Wanhuzhai is the first “Home for Overseas Chinese” in Qiandongnan, utilizing its geographic advantages and operational experience to facilitate community engagement and cultural exchanges. This initiative provides platforms for overseas Chinese individuals and families to enhance learning, strengthen connections, and build friendships.

“Not only does this area boast stunning natural scenery, but it also features a vibrant industrial layout,” said Zhang Liang, editor-in-chief of the U.S.-based World Culture Report. He noted how Baifu Wanhuzhai merges local resources with modern industry, particularly through specialty agriculture and rural tourism, creating job opportunities and income avenues for residents. “Rural revitalization requires collective effort from all parties. The practices demonstrated at Baifu Wanhuzhai serve as a successful example, showcasing the immense potential for rural development.”

The visiting representatives expressed their commitment to promoting this successful rural revitalization case in their respective countries, fostering cultural and economic exchanges between China and the world. “Baifu Wanhuzhai has allowed us to witness the collision and fusion of different cultures, and we have profoundly experienced the remarkable changes brought about by rural revitalization. Such achievements are truly inspiring,” remarked Zhang Chunmei, executive president of Indonesia’s International Daily.

This event was guided by the All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese, supported by the United Front Work Department of the Guizhou Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China, and hosted by the Guizhou Provincial Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese. The interview group has already engaged with various locales, including Guiyang and Qiandongnan, and is set to continue its journey into Tongren, showcasing a more authentic, three-dimensional representation of Guizhou to the world through the lens and narratives of overseas Chinese media.

BlackRock Reaches New Asset Management High of $11.5 Trillion

BlackRock has achieved a record high in managed assets for the third consecutive quarter, reaching $11.48 trillion in the third quarter, a significant increase from $9.1 trillion a year ago and up from $10.65 trillion in the previous quarter. This growth is attributed to a surge in inflows into the company’s ETFs and a robust stock market, which has enhanced the investment value for clients. In the third quarter, BlackRock reported a long-term net flow of $160 billion, contributing to a quarterly record of total net inflows of $221.18 billion, compared to just $25.7 billion a year earlier. The majority of the inflows, totaling $97.41 billion, were directed toward ETFs, while clients invested $62.74 billion in BlackRock’s fixed income products.

BNY Mellon Surpasses $50 Trillion in Assets Under Custody

BNY Mellon, the world’s largest custody bank, announced that its assets under custody and management have surpassed the $50 trillion mark for the first time, driven by rising investment service fees. The bank reported a 16% increase in profits for the third quarter. Net interest income (NII) rose by 3%, as yields on BNY’s bond investments offset the rising costs of deposits. Analysts from LSEG estimate a projected decline of 1.3% in NII. For the quarter ending September 30, BNY Mellon reported profits of $1.11 billion, or $1.50 per share, up from $958 million, or $1.23 per share, from the same period last year. The total assets under custody management rose by 14% year-over-year to $52.1 trillion.

Tesla Unveils Autonomous Taxi Priced at $30,000

On the evening of October 10, Tesla held a highly anticipated event to showcase its autonomous taxi service. CEO Elon Musk presented the Cybercab, a self-driving taxi with two knife-style doors and no steering wheel or pedals, as well as the Robovan, an autonomous van designed to carry up to 20 passengers. Musk believes these innovations will pave the way for Tesla’s long-term growth. However, the absence of a clear business plan led to a nearly 8% drop in Tesla’s stock price during the early trading hours on October 11.

During the launch at the Warner Bros. studio in Los Angeles, Musk made a grand entrance in a prototype Cybercab. This two-door taxi is expected to start production in 2026 and will be available to the general public at a price below $30,000.

Japanese man threw petrol bomb at Liberal Democratic Party headquarters, then drove into Prime Minister’s residence and was arrested

On the morning of October 19, a 49-year-old man was arrested after launching a violent attack against Japan’s ruling Liberal Democratic Party headquarters and subsequently crashing his vehicle into the Prime Minister’s residence. The incident began around 6 AM when the suspect, identified as Atsunobu Usuda from Kawaguchi, Saitama Prefecture, threw approximately five Molotov cocktails at the party headquarters, targeting a riot police vehicle. Fortunately, the flames were extinguished quickly, and there were no reported injuries.

Following this, the man drove about 500 meters to the Prime Minister’s residence, where he broke through security barriers. He then hurled smoke bombs at the police on site but was intercepted by an officer and arrested for obstructing public duty and other charges.

Sources close to the investigation revealed that Usuda remained silent during questioning, refusing to disclose his motives for the attack. In a search of his vehicle, police discovered around ten gasoline canisters and several unused Molotov cocktails, indicating a potentially larger plan. Authorities continue to investigate the details and motivation behind this alarming incident.

It’s been 30 years since the release of “Defense Force” and the two protagonists are not exclusive about starring in the sequel

Recently, Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock reunited to celebrate the 30th anniversary of “Speed” at the Beyond Fest in Los Angeles, hosted by the American Cinematheque. Director Jan de Bont also joined them on stage to share insights about the making of this iconic film.

In “Speed,” Reeves portrays Los Angeles detective Jack Traven, while Bullock plays passenger Annie Porter. The movie’s intense premise involves a bus rigged with a bomb that detonates if its speed drops below 50 mph. De Bont revealed that a total of 11 buses were used for the production, to which Reeves humorously added that they were equipped with too many cameras.

Earlier this year, the duo also reminisced about their breakout film during a podcast episode of “50 MPH,” stating they would not rule out the possibility of reuniting for “Speed 3.”

“Speed,” released in 1994 with a modest budget of only $30 million, went on to gross over $121 million worldwide. Audiences were captivated not only by the thrilling action scenes but also by the undeniable chemistry between Reeves and Bullock.

The sequel, “Speed 2: Cruise Control,” was released in 1997, shifting the action from a bus to a cruise ship. Both Bullock and director de Bont returned for the sequel, but Reeves declined to reprise his role, a decision that almost derailed his career.

Following “Speed,” Reeves reached the pinnacle of his career but found that his subsequent projects did not live up to expectations. He needed a major hit to regain that success, and “Speed 2” seemed like an excellent opportunity. In this sequel, Jack (Reeves) and Annie (Bullock) are now a couple vacationing on a cruise ship, only to encounter a madman who attempts to hijack the ship’s control system.

Initially, Bullock turned down the offer to return for the sequel but eventually agreed to participate for funding reasons related to another film. Meanwhile, Reeves opted to work with Al Pacino and Charlize Theron in “The Devil’s Advocate,” which helped him reclaim his status as a leading man. However, his refusal to star in “Speed 2” was primarily due to his dissatisfaction with the script.

Years later, Reeves revealed that his decision not to participate led to a decade-long absence from projects with Twentieth Century Fox, with their collaboration only resuming in 2008 with “The Day the Earth Stood Still.”

The -Golden Phoenix- flies out of the -Red Earth-, see the new chapter of Yan’an Hot Earth Painting!

On October 20, a media delegation arrived in Yan’an, a revered revolutionary site that has witnessed the historic struggles of the Chinese revolution. This was part of an online thematic promotion event titled “Inheriting the Yan’an Spirit, Advancing in a Great Era.” The journey allowed us to witness the remarkable transformation of this revolutionary old district, where the spirit of Yan’an continues to thrive and foster a burgeoning “red economy.”

Inside the Yan’an Revolution Memorial Museum, a guide passionately shared stories of the revolution with the media team. As we walked through the museum, we encountered numerous exhibits that encapsulated the arduous journey of revolutionary pioneers. Among the visitors, one elderly gentleman, Guo Qinglin, stood out. At 72 years old, with gray hair and a bright red hat, his youthful energy was infectious. He traveled all the way from Shanxi Province to participate in these educational activities annually.

“Young people should observe how the older generation has persevered,” Guo advised. “They must learn about the struggles we faced and embrace the Yan’an spirit.” When asked what this spirit represented, he simply stated, “Hard work and perseverance!”

Interestingly, while Guo lingered near an exhibit featuring a “rifle and millet,” a first grader named Lan Haowen was nearby, attempting to interact with traditional newspapers displayed behind a glass case. A self-confessed “red culture enthusiast,” Lan’s father mentioned that she loved visiting various revolutionary sites, hoping that through these experiences, she would develop a deeper understanding of red culture. “I want to be a successor of communism when I grow up,” Lan declared with determination, “but first, I need to study hard.”

Many parents took advantage of the weekend to introduce their children to red culture. A young visitor, Hu Yucheng, shared how he was deeply moved by the hardships portrayed in the exhibits. “They fought tirelessly and wore tattered clothes. I want to help our country just like they did.” Hu’s mother expressed her hope that this visit would help her daughter appreciate their current happy life.

Sulina, a guide at the memorial, emphasized the significance of such red cultural tourism for the youth. “Through visiting the museum, children not only learn about revolutionary history but also cultivate a sense of patriotism within themselves. They grasp the exceptional spirit and noble qualities of revolutionary ancestors and begin to understand their own responsibilities as the new generation.”

Visitors often leave the museum feeling reinvigorated and inspired. Many express that the Yan’an Revolution Memorial Museum rekindles their confidence and provides strength to face challenges, reminding them of the courageous deeds and revolutionary spirit of past generations.

As for the museum itself, it has continually adapted to the times since it opened on July 1, 1950. Over the last 74 years, it has remained a popular destination, attracting thousands of visitors seeking a “pilgrimage” experience in this revolutionary atmosphere. During the 2024 National Day holiday, the museum hosted around 170,000 visitors, with daily attendance averaging 6,000 to 7,000. Last year, the total number of visitors surpassed 3 million.

With its diverse crowd, the memorial not only attracts domestic tourists, including government groups and youth study tours, but also many international friends. This blend of visitors showcases the unique cultural appeal of the museum while preserving the essence of its revolutionary heritage.

In light of the growing red tourism market, innovation has become essential. The memorial has embraced new technologies, such as multimedia and VR, to enhance visitor experience. From sculptures depicting the Long March in Shaanxi to dynamic portrayals of historical events like the Yan’an Forum on Literature and Art, the museum puts forth a fresh and engaging face to all who enter.

To engage younger audiences, the museum introduced 13 animated courses that share touching stories behind revolutionary artifacts, allowing children to explore history in a fun and enjoyable manner. Furthermore, it has been proactive in establishing connections with schools by inviting youth groups to participate in special lectures and hosting a selection of skilled guides who visit schools to facilitate education on party history.

Additionally, the development of creative products plays a crucial role in this transformation. From trendy items featuring star patterns to charming refrigerator magnets and postcards, the gift shop offers an array of “red culture” merchandise that appeals predominantly to young shoppers. According to staff member Liu Yun, refrigerator magnets are particularly popular among young visitors, who eagerly purchase them not just for themselves, but also as gifts for friends and family.

Interestingly, the shop also has an engaging stamp collection area where numerous young visitors excitedly mark their memories. Designed to replicate historical revolutionary sites such as the Yangjialing and Zaoyuan, these stamps offer rich stories behind each landmark, making red culture come alive in a fun and interactive way.

“By continually innovating and producing merchandise that resonates with the younger generation’s tastes and needs, the museum successfully combines the essence of red culture with contemporary trends,” Sulina remarked.

As the Yan’an region accelerates its development of red culture tourism, artistic endeavors also play a significant role. On the evening of October 20, the media group attended a performance of the large-scale historical play “Yan’an Nursery.” The story recounted the journey of a Red Army female soldier holding a baby during the 1930s, who entrusted her child to a comrade as they traversed difficulties to arrive at the safe haven of Yan’an Nursery.

Grounded in true history, the “Yan’an Nursery” was established in 1938 to care for war orphans and children of revolutionaries amidst the ongoing conflict. Over 10 years, it provided refuge and nurture for over 5,000 children, creating a safe haven even amid chaos.

The performance has been a staple for over a decade, enabling countless party members, students, and tourists to experience revolutionary history while learning and cultivating the Yan’an spirit.

Clearly, to develop red culture sustainably, it is paramount to systematically excavate and organize red resources, optimize their use in tourism, and innovate tourism methods. With dozens of revolutionary sites and museums, Yan’an has witnessed an influx of visitors, attracting a remarkable 17.27 million in the first half of this year alone.

To harness these rich resources, Yan’an has actively pursued new pathways for integrating red culture with tourism, enhancing its offerings, and enriching the overall visitor experience. Whether it’s the inviting aroma from local breweries, traditional snacks, street performances narrating the past, or walking along historic routes—this seamless blend of experiences has effectively attracted tourists while also elevating the local economy.

As the allure of red tourism flourishes, the locals benefit too, illustrating how “red culture” has evolved into a “golden brand.” Historically, “Going to Yan’an” was a rousing battle cry during wartime; today, the land once traversed by brave soldiers strides firmly towards quality development.

Experts -take the pulse- of Shanghai’s urban renewal- revitalize the old city without overdoing it

**Interviewer:** Welcome, Dr. Wang Guowei. In your opinion, what are the key principles guiding urban renewal in cities like Shanghai?

**Wang Guowei:** Thank you for having me. A crucial principle of urban renewal, especially in older districts, is to adopt a “people-centered” approach. It’s essential to not only rejuvenate old neighborhoods but also to reclaim lost sights and imaginations. We shouldn’t be too focused on the past without embracing innovative ideas that reflect our contemporary times.

**Interviewer:** That’s a fascinating perspective. Could you elaborate on the recent developments in urban renewal in Shanghai?

**Wang Guowei:** Absolutely. Shanghai has made impressive strides in urban renewal, notably as a pioneer of the “People’s City” concept. During the recent Urban Renewal Discovery Officer event, various experts across different industries gathered to provide diverse viewpoints on urban renewal. Zhang Fan, the Vice President of the Urban Renewal Pioneers Alliance and head of the Shanghai Urban Planning and Design Institute, emphasized that urban renewal is not just about erecting new skyscrapers; it also involves preserving the historical essence of the city.

**Interviewer:** Interesting. How does this preservation relate to the cultural fabric of the city?

**Yu Shijia:** The organic renewal of the city is fundamentally about the meticulous preservation and creation of its cultural complexion. As builders, we must explore the city’s memory and find what resonates with the public. This organic renewal should enhance the urban environment while cultivating the spirit of the city.

**Interviewer:** It sounds like a delicate balance between maintaining history and fostering innovation. What insights can you share about the cultural evolution of Shanghai?

**Wang Weiming:** As a member of the Shanghai Writers’ Association, I believe understanding Shanghai’s historical and cultural evolution is vital. The rich tapestry of urban culture is a continuation of Shanghai’s root culture. By staying true to our historical roots, we can better innovate for the future. Any forward-thinking approach must be grounded in a thorough understanding of our past.

**Interviewer:** Recently, the Luxiangyuan project was recognized during the Urban Renewal Discovery event. What does this project represent?

**Wang Guowei:** Indeed, the Luxiangyuan project was awarded the first “Urban Renewal Observation Point.” As one of the original private gardens in the old city, Luxiangyuan, together with Yuyuan and Rishengyuan, is part of the “Three Great Ming Dynasty Gardens of Shanghai.” This project exemplifies an exploration and practice in conserving the historical landscape amid modern development.

**Interviewer:** Can you share some specific innovations from the Luxiangyuan project?

**Wang Guowei:** Certainly. The Luxiangyuan project aims to rejuvenate the spirit of the place while adapting to contemporary urban life. The planning department has implemented four key innovations: redefining the site’s essence, revitalizing architectural usage, advancing engineering technology, and integrating diverse functions. Moving forward, we anticipate further exploration into safeguarding the cultural roots of Shanghai and reshaping the identity of the old city.

**Interviewer:** What do you think is essential for future urban renewal efforts?

**Wang Guowei:** Urban renewal requires tailored strategies appropriate to each unique context. It’s about addressing current challenges while also creating space for future growth. The series of events aims to dive into more detailed aspects and case studies of urban renewal in Shanghai from various angles, including history, culture, architecture, and planning. Ultimately, we hope to enhance cultural confidence through beauty, foster innovation through historical insights, and promote cooperative development through practical engagement.

Benson celebrates Columbus Day Parade in Brooklyn, Chinese Americans celebrate together

On October 12th, Bensonhurst held its annual Columbus Day parade, drawing a crowd of nearly 30,000 people, surpassing the scale of previous years. The event featured a diverse array of participants, including many Chinese organizations, reflecting the increasing multicultural integration within the community.

At 1 PM, participants, including floats and community organization members, gathered on 61st Street and marched slowly towards the service center of the Brooklyn Italian-American Alliance on Benson Avenue. Both State Assemblyman William Colton and City Councilwoman Sandra Ung were in attendance.

Colton remarked that this parade has been a tradition in the Bensonhurst community for over 40 years, fostering deep connections among local residents. He expressed his belief that “dialogue breeds cooperation, and cultural integration can reduce misunderstandings.” He was pleased to see such enthusiastic participation from community members.

Ung extended her gratitude to the many volunteers from the Chinese community who completed other activities before joining the parade, noting that approximately 30,000 people had gathered, marking the largest turnout yet.

Volunteers from the Chinese Community Association shared their excitement about participating for the fourth consecutive year. They typically engage in volunteer activities within the community and were thrilled to join forces with fellow volunteers for this event. The parade included performances from community school bands, martial arts groups, and color guard teams, with prominent participation from organizations like the Pinecrest Housing Association, the Brooklyn Chinese-American Community Service Center, and the New York Chinese Chorus.

Lanyuan, the owner of a flower shop in Bensonhurst for five years, expressed mixed feelings about the parade from a business perspective. While acknowledging that the parade disrupts nearby traffic and parking—often discouraging customers from visiting her shop—she still supports the continuation of the parade.

Ms. Chen, who has lived in the Bensonhurst community for 40 years, recalled how she once rarely encountered other Chinese residents or found Chinese grocery stores. She had to travel to Chinatown in Manhattan to buy essentials like soy sauce. Reflecting on the changes in the community over the years, she noted a growing diversity among her neighbors, who have transitioned from primarily Italian-American to a more multicultural demographic, while appreciating the community’s consistent safety.

Meanwhile, Mr. Li, who stumbled upon the parade while shopping, expressed his curiosity about the closed streets and thoroughly enjoyed the performances, particularly the flag-waving displays.

The Vessel in New York reopens on Monday with floor-to-ceiling barbed wire to prevent suicide_1

The Vessel, a renowned landmark in New York City, is set to reopen on October 21st after a three-year closure. Often referred to as the “Big Pinecone” by Chinese tourists, this architectural marvel shut its doors due to a series of tragic suicide incidents. Following nearly 1,200 days of inactivity, the Vessel is now ready to welcome back visitors with enhanced safety measures, including protective fencing.

The owners expressed their confidence in the new safety protocols, assuring that there will be no further safety concerns related to suicide risks. Tickets are now available for purchase online, with operating hours from 10 AM to 9 PM daily. General admission is priced at $10 and must be booked in advance, while flexible tickets allowing for entry at any time are available for $15. Additionally, New York residents can enjoy free visits every Thursday. For more information, guests are encouraged to visit the website: hudsonyardsnewyork.com/discover/vessel.

The reopening of the Vessel not only attracts tourists but also brings significant benefits to local businesses in Hudson Yards. Isabella Arra, a coffee vendor in the vicinity, shared her excitement during an interview with ABC News, stating, “We’re looking forward to it bringing more visitors to the area and boosting business.”

For the past three years, the Vessel has only allowed access to its lower level. Beginning this week, visitors will have the opportunity to climb up part of the staircase and take in the views of the plaza. However, due to safety precautions, the steel mesh on each level will be secured to both the top and bottom, meaning that the very top level will remain temporarily closed to the public.

A spokesperson for Hudson Yards revealed that they have worked closely with the original designer and architectural studio to implement a renovation plan that includes floor-to-ceiling wire mesh barriers around the Vessel. “We are committed to preserving the unique experience that has attracted millions of visitors from around the world,” the spokesperson stated, noting that these barriers will be securely installed, making it impossible for visitors to cut or remove them.

Located along the Hudson River, the Vessel has drawn crowds of residents and global tourists since its completion in 2019, inviting them to explore its intricate and winding staircase. Unfortunately, the lack of protective measures and the presence of low railings made it all too easy for individuals to climb over and jump. In just 18 months, four suicide incidents occurred there, with the youngest victim being just 14 years old, ultimately leading to its closure in 2021.
