Chongqing-Kunming High-speed Railway explores the research and application of new technologies during construction

As the construction of the Yukun High-Speed Railway progresses, builders are continually exploring new technologies for research and application. This railway is a key component of China’s “eight vertical and eight horizontal” high-speed rail network, specifically within the Jing-Kun corridor.

At the Sonming beam yard in Sonming County, Yunnan Province, the sound of machinery fills the air, where various machines are efficiently operating to produce U-shaped steel bars at a rapid pace.

“We have developed a four-axis horizontal U-shaped steel bar bending processing center in collaboration with the equipment manufacturer,” said Li Jingjie, the site manager for the Yukun High-Speed Railway project from China Railway Fourth Bureau. “This technology boasts significant advantages, including high bending accuracy, fast forming speed, and high automation levels, enabling a one-step transformation from raw materials to semi-finished products.” The introduction of this equipment has notably improved work efficiency and reduced production costs.

Currently, the time required to process the steel bars for a single box beam has been cut down from five hours to just one hour, and the workforce required has decreased from six to one, successfully enhancing both efficiency and profitability.

The Sonming beam yard is making strides towards creating a “smart beam yard” by incorporating various new intelligent technologies and machinery, such as smart chiseling and cutting robots, self-driving systems for internal molds of box beams, and intelligent spraying robots for the ends of beams. These advancements not only meet the required construction standards and processes but significantly enhance production capacity as well.

At present, the yard can pour about 800 tons of box beams daily, contributing robustly to the Yukun High-Speed Railway construction.

One of the major challenges in this project is the 3.7-kilometer Li Jia Village tunnel, which is a gas tunnel and poses high safety risks. To ensure construction safety, China Railway Twelfth Bureau has implemented an automated gas detection monitoring system for toxic and hazardous gases and has used explosion-proof electrical equipment, effectively mitigating the risks associated with gas operations.

Meanwhile, at the Luo Rongzhuang tunnel construction site, a smart site gas detection system is actively updating monitoring data in real-time, providing safety assurances for the workers involved in tunnel operations.

To tackle the challenges posed by the construction of the Changshui Airport tunnel that passes underneath the airport flight zone, the Dianzhong Railway Construction Command has organized experts from various fields to conduct technical research, resulting in key technological breakthroughs for the tunnel construction. The construction unit, China Railway Eighteenth Bureau, has employed a combination method using a cantilever tunneling machine along with a splitting machine and a rock hammer, filling a gap in domestic long-distance, large-section tunnel construction technology while ensuring safe construction progress and flight zone integrity.

The head of the Dianzhong Railway Construction Command at China Railway Kunming Group emphasized the importance of exploring modern information technology and smart equipment in the construction of the Yukun High-Speed Railway. The use of systems for monitoring risk, measuring surrounding rock in tunnels, electronic construction logs, documenting concealed engineering images, and smart security has provided scientific data support and a solid information guarantee for construction management.

Additionally, there is a continuous focus on enhancing research and application of new technologies, actively exploring the application of BIM technology for station house construction to optimize workflows, reduce interference, and develop research results that can be referenced in major engineering construction organization systems.

‘Music gives emergency workers a sense of belonging’

“So, I kind of live a double life,” shared Seb Valentine, an intriguing individual whose everyday responsibilities starkly contrast with his profound passion for music. As a detective sergeant in the Metropolitan Police, Seb’s journey to law enforcement began after a successful career as an opera singer. He initially pursued his love for music at London’s prestigious Royal College of Music, but the challenges of making a sustainable living led him to join the police force in 2011.

In 2015, Seb sought to merge his two worlds and founded the Blue Light Symphony Orchestra, a unique ensemble consisting entirely of emergency service workers, as well as members from the NHS and military. “After spending some time in the police, I felt a strong desire to return to music,” he explained. “I began reaching out to fellow emergency service musicians and was surprised to find many talented individuals. That encouraged me to assemble the orchestra.”

According to Seb, the experience of playing in this orchestra is unlike any other. “There are so many musicians who say it’s a unique environment because everyone shares that common experience of working in emergency services,” he noted.

What started as a modest group of 10 has now evolved into a robust orchestra of 65 members, primarily growing through word of mouth and outreach efforts to different emergency services. He emphasized the importance of creating a welcoming atmosphere where musicians can feel safe and understood. “It’s heartening to see people come together, knowing they will be welcomed for who they are,” he stated.

After transferring to Surrey Police in 2017, Seb continued to expand the orchestra, which is open to blue light workers nationwide. Due to their demanding shift patterns, they can’t meet as frequently as a conventional orchestra, but Seb makes a concerted effort to bring members together when possible. “People genuinely enjoy meeting others from various emergency services. They bond over shared traumatic experiences and, of course, their passion for music,” he said.

Seb also mentioned the significance of creating a space where emergency workers can be themselves. “Many in our line of work often hesitate to disclose what they do socially, so this orchestra allows them to come together, be themselves, and truly relax,” he explained.

The Blue Light Symphony Orchestra is a registered charity focused on enhancing the mental health of emergency service workers through music and music therapy. Recently, they held their second concert at Smith Square Hall in Westminster, timed to coincide with World Mental Health Day. “Our mission revolves around mental health, providing a safe space for individuals to come together and create music for their wellbeing,” Seb emphasized. “Music is a powerful tool for mental health and fosters a sense of belonging.”

In three-hour Rogan interview, Trump reveals ‘biggest mistake’

In a recent podcast episode that has caught significant attention, former President Donald Trump sat down for a three-hour interview with Joe Rogan, the most popular podcaster in America. During this extensive discussion, Trump opened up about a variety of topics, including what he considers to be the “biggest mistake” of his presidency, his conversations with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, and even the possibility of extraterrestrial life.

Interestingly, two years ago, Rogan labeled Trump as “an existential threat to democracy” and declined to feature him on his podcast. However, the tone of their conversation this time was notably amicable, as they bonded over their mutual interests in the Ultimate Fighting Championship and shared acquaintances like Elon Musk.

Trump’s campaign is optimistic that this interview will strengthen his appeal among male voters, who comprise a significant portion of Rogan’s audience. With 14.5 million followers on Spotify and 17.5 million subscribers on YouTube, the “Joe Rogan Experience” remains a powerful platform for reaching a wide audience.

To participate in this interview, Trump made an unexpected detour to Austin, Texas, which led him to arrive nearly three hours late to a rally in Traverse City, Michigan. This city is a vital swing state, where both Trump and his Democratic opponent, Kamala Harris, have been vigorously campaigning.

The Indonesian president’s internet celebrity cat lives in his official residence and the military strongman loves to tease him_2

On October 20, Prabowo Subianto was inaugurated as Indonesia’s new president, and his beloved cat, Bobby, moved into the presidential palace alongside him, sparking widespread discussion. Bobby, a stray cat adopted by Prabowo in 2017 in South Jakarta, has gained significant popularity on social media, amassing over 650,000 followers on Instagram. During the recent election, Bobby became a media sensation, offering a stark contrast to Prabowo’s past image as a military strongman.

Bobby’s fame has captured the attention of many Indonesian celebrities. Notable figures like Mulan Jameela, a member of the Great Indonesia Movement Party, and business mogul Anindya Bakrie have eagerly shared photos with Bobby on their social media accounts.

Prabowo, who comes from a military background, took office on October 20 and moved into the presidential palace, known as the “Independence Palace,” with Bobby in tow. The day after the inauguration, Bobby’s Instagram account featured a video showing Prabowo gently petting Bobby while asking, “Want to see your new room?” This charming moment has since garnered over 7.15 million views and more than 330,000 likes.

A pet stroller Bobby was seen in also drew attention, reported CNBC Indonesia, revealing it retails for 6.2 million Indonesian rupiah (approximately $396). Chinese comic movie -Phoenix and Me- released and planned to meet the audience in 2027

Dongguan, October 25 (China News Service) – On the evening of October 24, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area Animation Film Week held its “Yongsheng Animation Night” event in Dongguan. During the event, the much-anticipated second installment of the “Eastern Legends” series, titled “The Phoenix and Me,” was announced. The film is currently in production and is slated for release in 2027.

In his speech, Song Zhiqin, the Executive Deputy Director of the Film Arts Center of the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles, emphasized the balance between respecting tradition and embracing innovation in animation filmmaking. He expressed his expectation that “The Phoenix and Me” would showcase the unique charm of Chinese traditional culture to a global audience, providing a fantastical window into Eastern legends and cultural heritage.

The inspiration for the film stems from the creative team’s exploration of the distinctive culture of the Lingnan region. Producer Zhao Jianchao explained, “We aim to tell a Chinese story from the perspective of Lingnan’s regional culture. Films like ‘Moana,’ ‘Coco,’ and ‘How to Train Your Dragon’ have achieved great success by innovatively expressing unique regional cultures. It is only when regional culture is set against the backdrop of global culture that its individuality and appeal can truly shine.”

“The Phoenix and Me” tells a fantastical love story between humans and monsters over thousands of years in ancient times. It is depicted as an epic of female growth during the ancient era, portraying the struggles of early people who revered the mythical bird as a totem in their pursuit of survival and freedom.

In recent years, Chinese animated films have been diversifying in themes and genres. When asked about the relatively uncommon choice of love as a central theme in domestic animation, Zhao noted, “Some young people might be skeptical about love, but that doesn’t mean they don’t yearn for it. There is still an audience and market for romantic themes.” He added that the titles “Phoenix” and “Dragon” symbolize love in themselves. The love story presented in “The Phoenix and Me” spans millennia, portrayed in a way that is “primordial,” “direct,” and “passionate,” aligning with modern aesthetic values. Furthermore, the film centers around strong female character development, using the phoenix as a symbol of women’s growth.

To richly and accurately represent the cultural icon of “phoenix,” the creative team drew inspiration from various regions, including the Qianhu Miao Village, Zhaoxing Dong Village, and the ancient city of Fenghuang. They conducted extensive research into the Sanxingdui culture, Yin Ruins culture, and ancient Chu culture during the visual development phase. Zhao highlighted that the concept of the “Winged People” in the film is inspired by the bird-human imagery found in the ancient Shu civilization of Sanxingdui, integrating elements like golden masks, bronze masks, and patterns into the characters’ costumes and accessories.

Prince William- ‘I’ll show people how to prevent homelessness’

In a recent two-part ITV documentary, Prince William addressed criticism regarding his Homewards program, aimed at combating homelessness in Britain, while also navigating questions about his privileged lifestyle. The heir to the throne faced scrutiny over his three residences and a sprawling 135,000-acre Duchy of Cornwall estate.

During the documentary titled “Prince William: We Can End Homelessness,” viewers heard LBC radio host James O’Brien relay criticisms from Graham Smith, the chief executive of the anti-monarchist group Republic. Smith argued that homelessness stems from government policy and investment rather than charity or royal involvement.

When asked about the feedback on his Homewards initiative, which is focused on demonstrating actionable solutions to end homelessness, Prince William remarked, “If I answered every critic, I’d be here all day. But you know, criticism drives you forward.” He emphasized the importance of questioning the status quo, stating, “Ultimately, we are pushing forward to deliver change, hope, and optimism to a world that frankly has had very little of it for a long time. I hope I can bring something that hasn’t been done before.”

The documentary, airing this Wednesday and Thursday, chronicles his first year after launching Homewards, featuring his visit to Nansledan, near Newquay, where the Duchy is currently developing 24 homes. “I’m not saying I’m going to solve the entire world’s homelessness problems. But I am going to show people how to prevent homelessness,” he explained.

With more than 350,000 individuals in Britain lacking permanent housing, and the number of homeless youth aged 16 to 24 surpassing 130,000, the issue is pressing. In discussions with his three children—George, Charlotte, and Louis—on their school runs in Windsor, where local authorities were tackling 101 homelessness cases earlier this year, he shared, “The first few times I thought, do I bring this up? Or should I wait and see if any of them noticed? And sure enough, they did. They were just sort of in silence after I had said what was going on.”

Prince William believes it is crucial to start conversations about homelessness early, helping children understand their surroundings and breaking the bubble of privilege they might live in. “It’s really important that you start those conversations when the children are small,” he concluded, “so that they understand the world around them and aren’t just living in their own little worlds.”
