In a recent interview in Abuja, Chuks Okocha captured the sentiments of All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders in Anambra State, who have expressed strong disapproval of President Bola Tinubu’s appointment of Ambassador Bianca Ojukwu as a minister-designate. The APC leaders labeled the decision as detrimental to party unity and raised concerns over the lack of consultation with party members prior to the appointment.
During an emergency meeting held in Awka, the state capital, the leaders voiced their frustrations. They argued that the President’s unilateral decision undermines party loyalty and harms the morale of APC members. High Chief Bunty Onuigbo, the South East Zonal Secretary of APC and a member of the APC Elders Forum in Anambra, articulated the collective discontent on behalf of the stakeholders. He stated, “This is nothing but an act of anti-party, and it is detrimental. By empowering members of other political parties at the expense of the APC in Anambra State, Mr. President is not supporting party loyalty.”
Onuigbo raised pointed questions about the consequences of the President’s actions, asking, “Does Mr. President want a mass defection of APC members in Anambra to the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA)? Is he indirectly working for APGA in Anambra State?” He characterized the situation as “unheard of and highly demoralizing,” suggesting that the leadership in Abuja appears to be bolstering the prospects of rival parties to the detriment of the APC.
“This is a group that despises the APC and wants nothing to do with us. Mr. President is encouraging them by making such appointments,” he continued. To address their concerns, Onuigbo revealed that APC stakeholders have resolved to formally present their grievances about the appointment to the state Chairman, Chief Basil Ejidike, who will forward them to the National Working Committee and the National Executive Committee.
