On October 10 at 1:52 AM, a 4.5 magnitude earthquake shook Xingshan County in Yibin City, Sichuan Province, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center. The quake struck at a depth of 10 kilometers.
Residents in nearby regions, including Sichuan, Guizhou, and Chongqing, felt the tremors. Social media buzzed with reactions, with one user from Zunyi reporting, “My bed just shook.” Another added, “In Chongqing University Town, the bed shook too.” A resident of Leibo County in Liangshan mentioned, “The window glass rattled a bit.”
A representative from the Xingshan County Publicity Department noted that the earthquake occurred in the early morning hours, with particularly strong vibrations reported in Miao Township. They are currently conducting an assessment, but, as of now, there have been no reports of injuries or fatalities.
Research indicates that in the last five years, there have been 212 earthquakes of magnitude 3.0 or higher within a 200-kilometer radius of the epicenter. The most significant recorded event was a 6.0 magnitude earthquake that struck Lu County in Luzhou City, Sichuan Province, on September 16, 2021.
