On October 22nd, a significant political exchange event titled “Sharing a River: Sino-Thai Cooperation and Green Development” was successfully held in Bangkok. The event brought together over 200 participants, including members of Thai political parties, the government, and the National Assembly.
Among the notable attendees were Chen Gang, Secretary of the Qinghai Provincial Committee, who led a delegation; Han Zhiqiang, the Chinese Ambassador to Thailand; former Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva; and Pochin, President of the Thai-Chinese Cultural and Economic Association, along with Anupong, spokesperson for the Thai Rak Party.
In his address, Secretary Chen shared heartfelt stories highlighting Qinghai’s commitment to ecological protection, clean energy development, and improving the livelihoods of its people. He emphasized that Qinghai, located at the source of the Mekong River, stands as a testament to the enduring friendship between the two countries. Chen expressed a desire to join hands with Thai friends in advancing modernization and achieving even greater results in Mekong-Lancang cooperation.
Various speakers, including Pochin, former Prime Minister Abhisit, and Anupong, echoed Chen’s sentiments, expressing their willingness to enhance practical cooperation in areas such as water resources, clean energy, and connectivity. They underscored the importance of strengthening multilateral collaboration within the framework of Mekong-Lancang cooperation to better benefit the peoples of both nations.
Ambassador Han highlighted the friendship and goodwill from the people of Qinghai and China towards Thailand, noting the robust momentum in exchanges and cooperation between the two countries across various fields. He remarked that a high-quality, open, and peaceful China would continuously inject new motivation into the mutually beneficial cooperation between China and Thailand.
The event also featured an exhibition titled “Beautiful Qinghai,” showcasing photographs, traditional river-huang papercutting, and embroidery, all representing Qinghai’s rich cultural heritage, attracting the attention of many distinguished guests.
