On October 18, 2023, South China Agricultural University held a ceremony to inaugurate its new hospital building. Designed to meet Class B secondary standards, this new facility was entirely funded by alumni Yang Qinghua and Huang Yongyi, who graduated from the university’s College of Engineering in 1983. Their generous investment totals 109 million yuan, covering everything from the design and construction to specialized medical systems, air conditioning, medical equipment, and furnishings.
The new hospital is strategically located near the university’s north gate and began construction in the second half of 2021, successfully passing completion inspections in August of this year. The project spans over 23,000 square meters, with the building area exceeding 11,000 square meters and consists of three buildings. The outpatient complex is six stories tall and boasts comprehensive medical facilities, including operating rooms, laboratories, and radiology rooms, all equipped with advanced technology like CT and DR machines. The facility aims to integrate multiple functions, including medical care, prevention, health maintenance, rehabilitation, and health education.
In collaboration with several major hospitals, including the First Affiliated Hospital of Jinan University, the university hospital has established a network of expert outpatient services, providing full, professional, and convenient medical care to meet the daily healthcare needs of students, faculty, and surrounding residents.
Yang Qinghua and Huang Yongyi share a special bond with the university, as they both entered the Department of Agricultural Machinery in the College of Engineering in 1979. During their time as students, Yang faced a medical emergency that required immediate attention. At that time, the university’s health room was quite basic, yet they diagnosed and treated him promptly. The university even arranged for him to be hospitalized off-campus and covered all his medical expenses.
This unforgettable experience imbued a sense of reverence for the campus health services in both Yang and Huang, making it a “sacred” place they return to every time they visit the university. Driven by a deep affection for their alma mater and teachers, they chose to fund the construction of the new hospital building.
