During a press conference organized by the Liaoning Provincial Government’s Information Office on October 16, Director Shen Min of the Provincial Public Security Department emphasized the importance of combating rural gambling in the region. The department has launched the “Qingfeng 2024” initiative to specifically target illegal gambling activities in rural areas, and the campaign has already shown promising results.

From June 24 to September 30, aligned with the Ministry of Public Security’s nationwide summer security campaigns, the Liaoning Public Security Bureau mobilized its forces to address these issues comprehensively. This initiative combined elements of the summer approach with the “Safe Guard” operations.

Rural gambling has long posed significant challenges to local governance, adversely affecting both social values and the development of rural revitalization efforts. In response, Liaoning authorities have rigorously implemented the “Qingfeng 2024” campaign during the summer and “Safe Guard” actions, with a focus on dismantling illegal gambling activities such as operating casinos, hosting gambling gatherings, and engaging in online betting.

Since the campaign’s inception, law enforcement has dismantled 353 criminal groups and eliminated 679 gambling dens while resolving 3,492 cases of illegal gambling. The number of suspects apprehended has reached 9,237, reflecting increases of 27.4%, 100.3%, 121.3%, and 26%, respectively, compared to previous periods. Notably, authorities also successfully cracked down on a significant cross-city casino operation in Dalian, arresting 130 individuals, which has greatly improved the social security landscape in rural areas.

Looking ahead, Shen Min stated that the Liaoning Public Security Department will continue to prioritize the crackdown on rural gambling crimes as a key mission, striving to uphold a safe and stable social environment in the region.
